Alternative Miss Ireland 2010

•March 19, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Well, where do I begin!! I am sooo delighted I won Alternative Miss Cork 2010, and now, the topping on the cake was being apart of Alternative Miss Ireland 2010!! I had exactly 4 weeks to the day from receiving my AMC crown to being on stage for AMI and the team and I literally rehearsed for 10 straight days in order to do our best!! Luckily on the night, there was such a strong theme of anti-Church and anti-Christianity we placed runner-up as our act and routines were light hearted, funny and consistant .

The controversy that surrounded the winner was shocking, people booing and jeering at the poor little alternative miss. I did feel shame for how the audience reacted to her as this competition is about raising funds for HIV/AIDS charities. Well done to all involved, you all really did yourselves proud and I for one am proud to say, WELL DONE!

Check out the GALLERY section and see the videos of my performances!

Cork’s Got Daisy??

•February 21, 2010 • Leave a Comment

After my fierce storm to glory on Sunday 14th February and winning Alternative Miss Cork, I immediately went into rehearsals for Cork’s Got Talent on Thursday 18th February. The media attention,  RedFM’s Dave Mac was a judge and MC for the evening and took huge enjoyment from the Daisy Dripps act which also included Konrad & Andrew. 7 competitors of the 17 got through to the Semi Finals of Cork’s Got Talent in Scott’s and now we are planning something very entertaining for the next stage!!

If you want to be part of the audience you can get tickets at www.CorksGotTalent.ie or at The Silver Springs Moran Hotel, Cork for Saturday 27th February. Be sure to come along as every audience member gets 1 vote each!!

The Queen Is Dead, Long Live The Queen!

Well, Alternative Miss Cork (AMC) 2010 has ended and it turns out…I’m the new Queen Of The Damned….I mean er,…Gays!

daisy amc

I had such a blast at AMC that the competition part took a back seat and the entertainment part came right front and centre to the cause! Absolutely thrilled I won, as Sheila Fitzpatrick predicted back in October 2009 I would…the lady’s a genius!

So would just like to thanks the following:

It was all down to Daisy Dripps’ dancers!! XXX Thank you to them for a MAFIS show!! Konrad, Andy, Cat, Claire, Will, Sabrina, Jamie, Ciara, Derek!! XXX Also my sister & make up artist Jessica Murphy & my mother Michelle!! XOX

I want to thank EVERYONE who came out and supported such a fantastic cause and hope that AMC will now grow from the ashes and be better and stronger each year!

Eddie, Pat, Sarah & everyone at AMC who made it all possible thank you!! You really did a top notch job and it was a pleasure!!

Thanks to Fabula, Kitty, Sheila Fits, Madonna, Panti and everyone of the other (non contestant) drag acts last night! FAB!!

I also want to congratulate all the other contestants. I didn’t see much of the show (for obvious reasons),but pictures look fab and will definitely have a fab crowd of contenders for next year if 2010 is anything to go by!!

And finally I want to thank the following for giving me time, effort, advice and helping me. Clive and all the staff from The Other Place Café for being so accomodating with rehearsals and generally being so open to allow us to rehearse there. I think The Other Place Café could possibly be one of the most undervalued gay historical and current treasures Cork has!!!

Dermot, Jules, Jenna & Ger for helping me and letting me get better by giving advice, and working with Jules who is brilliant!! Kelly Klitt, alot of people have their own thoughts on her but she really did along with Miss M give me an amazing time to shine in Flux (and a thank you to Dave & Colm also) as Daisy would have just disappeared after Pride if it wasn’t for them…AND DOODLE DANDEE!! XXX And everyone else who really has helped me along the way! So happy! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

PR 1.1 & YouTube xXx

Ohh what a fabulous day I had today!! Besides missing my Customer Relations class in college (YAY) I arrived in about 11:55am and was told by my class that Daisy must wait outside…so I was like “WTF! Are they drunk!?” so after waiting outside the room for 3-4 minutes I was allowed back in…when I went inside I was given a bouquet of 17/18 pink roses, a pink hair brush with the word “PRINCESS” wrote on it, a very lovely card! And…to top it off, A CHOCOLATE CHIP MUFFIN! I was in Heaven! And all because I came 2nd at AML. Thank You All!! I love my class, PR 1.1. Ye are all fab!

And later on I received more good news, a YouTube clip of my AML Day Wear was up online….attached below!! YAY!! Best news of the day! And again, PR 1.1 is the best! College Of Commerce All The Way!

AML 2009 – Fucking Hell!

•October 18, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Well I am fully (or at least almost fully) recovered from my night of magic, madness and glitter that was Alternative Miss Limerick! After arriving 30 minutes late for rehearsals, after a very stupid incident in which we stopped at a red light in a Limerick City junction, to then realise that there actually were no traffic lights there and getting stuck behind a bazillion cars, Jason (currently Mr. Gay Cork 2009/2010) just pulled it outta the hat to fly around every car or veichle he came near! Poor Konrad & Andy the other two dancers and our choreographer Graham were in stitches at how the routines were being rehearsed while in the car….not by Jason though, no…he was driving….*shifty eyes*

Anyway, arrived, learned where I was standing for swim wear, what was expected for day wear and evening wear and then just went for some healthy low fat Big Mac’s on O’Connell Street. When the contestants arrived I was very nervous (I felt like vomiting in the car on the way up!) and luckily I had Mike & Evan from the AML crew to calm the nerves….and a few After Shock shots!

I had an absolute ball backstage with the other contestants, (Roger Bait, Amy Tramp, Pearl Star, Terry Tightarse, Heidi Hotlips, Dingo Squiz, Amanda Cummings & Claudia Shipwrecker). Anyway first round came and my dancers were in place, my make up was spot on and my outfit….was yes, the wrong size (that teaches me for shopping without trying) but it was brilliantly kept closed, and so off I went backstage…Evan was so nice he took photos of us all which helped me because I wasn’t sure how Limerick would take to someone from Cork coming to try take the crown to represent them. But luckily Evan did brilliantly and I was fine. Backstage I hugged all my dancers, told them I loved them all and that no matter what happens, we’re gonna be great!

And then it started….”bad boys, bad boys, bad boys, bad boys….” and I knew it was us! Out we went for daywear, hands clenched and beads of sweat already seeping from my recently drawn on brow. Our choregraphy was spot on. I didn’t think it’d be that good, but my God….that was when I peaked…which is a bad thing, evening wear is there for that.

After the song rushing back to the dressing room, Andy in toe, helping me with changes I ran as quickly as possible to throw on my D&G baby pink bikini, and my black and gold shawl…clipping my wig ponytail back in a clip. Andy advised me, “NO, you’ll look good with it tied back!”. And I did…all thanks to my friend!! Anyway! Running down the stairs for swim wear I was told into a room to get more pics taken! Evan is such a camera happy queen, I loved it! Then running out backstage I sauntered onto the stage…shaking this time…my backing dancers helped me relax the first round, now I was alone. After Panti asking some very quick fire questions I left and ran upstairs to the dressing room…Andy as usual on hand!

After slipping into my €10 evening wear dress (from Stitch’n'Switch; Chambers Bar Charity Clothes Shop) I legged it up backstage with my silk dressing gown on to cover me…and voila…”I don’t give a fuck nomore….if people think I am a whore….” ETC…. haha.

Queue music beat getting faster….and dancer #1, then, dancer #2, then dancer #3….and before we knew it….OVER!

We had about 10-15minutes to wait for the judges decision which I was so happy it was living legend Cecilia Holman Lee as well as Noel Sutton (AMI) and Brian Merriman (MGI) among the 5 judges.

When we were all on stage I remember thinking, Heidi Hotlips has it in the bag, her final performance…and her outfit, AMAZING! I hadn’t even thought of a 1st, 2nd or 3rd position.

Once they presented Panti with a bouquet of flowers I heard her say there is a 1st place and 2nd place…so I started humming to myself to calm myself because this is every young queens dream to be in an Alternative Miss and share a stage with Panti…Mike Shinnors stood beside me and kissed me and said “well done” I was so chuffed, the first Alternative Miss I’d ever seen was Sheila Fits winning AMC back when I was 18. So back to the story, Noel Sutton passed the envelope to Panti and Mike held my hand and I kept thinking “WOW, I’m in Dolans on stage at an Alternative Miss!! And before I knew it my number 6 was called out and the name “Daisy Dripps” was named 2nd place. I stared for a minute at the crowd until Mike squeezed my hand and I clicked, “OMG…it’s me!” I was sooo happy to be a runner up that night.

Heidi Hotlips became AML 2009/2010. I was so thrilled for Heidi, she put a huge amount of work into it! AMAZING!

Now you may think, “Daisy, you stupid bitch, you came 2nd….you didn’t win!” but I was thinking, “JESUS FUCKING CHRIST….THE JUDGES THOUGHT I WAS GOOD, FUCKING HELL!! OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! AHHHH!!!!”.

And I was delighted to be Limerick’s Princess! Why?-because, I have been doing drag since May 2009 (5 mths)…and I have achieved ALOT I think in those 5 mths!!

Open Cork Pride in Rubys Nightclub with Zsa Zsa La Whore, apart of The Double D’s who have worked in Galway Pride…done shows in Limerick and Cork also…and now…came 2nd in an Alternative Miss competition!

FUCK THAT! I AM THRILLED!!

(pics to follow…along with more competition and events I’m gonna do!)
